I am pleased to announce that I will be exhibiting my first solo show August 1st – September 30th, 2017 at the Governor’s Cup Coffee Roasters in Salem, OR. The Governor’s Cup serves as an espresso bar by day and combination bar/music venue by night. The Delgados, the owners of business, are dedicated to fostering local talent. The owners host live musicians every Friday evening and feature a rotating gallery of artists bi-monthly. The Governor’s Cup creates an alternative space to the traditional gallery. Within the bustling environment, art viewing transforms from a silent, contemplative practice into a communal, social experience.

For this show, I compiled pieces from my portfolio that work well together in terms of form, color and concept. This show incorporates both introspective and observational artwork. The majority of my pieces focus on organizing the chaos of daily life into some semblance of order. The control exercised over the material qualities of the art enable me to create rhythm within each piece while also bringing ease to my own mental space. Although my work ranges from pure abstraction to direct representation, it remains linked by this desire to create order where originally there was none.

Making art has always been a major part of my life, but its importance has shifted as time has passed. Wherever I am at mentally, my relationship to my work changes. Art-making provides an outlet for me to dig into or reflect upon my changing mental and physical space.

In 2016, art-making became a far more personal and introspective experience for me. As I felt myself changing and growing into a new person, I needed my artwork to find moments of stillness while all else remained outside of my control. The pieces included in this show encapsulate this effort to make sense of my changing world.

I am overjoyed by the chance to share these works with others. Sharing my art acts as a form of personal catharsis while allowing me to connect with others whether that’s through a shared experience, or simply because they enjoy the formal qualities of my work. I am beyond grateful to the Governor’s Cup for offering me this chance to exhibit my work and do my part in enriching the Salem community.
