Grounded

Wood Burning on Wood Panel
May 2017

After completing a period of self-portraiture, I was looking to capture emotional states in more abstract means than direct self-representation. My abstract work depends on the feelings implied in different qualities of line and form to create emotion in the piece. This piece catalogues the process I go through to feel grounded within myself, divided in three separate panels: rising, fracturing, and diffusing. Although the three panels exist distinct from each other, their forms flow together and are contained within one frame—all phases of a singular journey.
