Fracture is a figure study combining elements of futurism and cubism, two art styles of the early 20th century. Futurist work emphasized speed, technology and innovation. In painting, this translated into the breaking apart of subject matter in order to show movement of forms through space. The cubists on the other hand sought to depict an object from a multitude of viewpoints to more accurately represent the form. Elements of both art forms can be seen in this figure painting.
